Here are three things to make it happen...
Updated to edit title as requested
Yes, yes, it's a misleading diary title - I hate them too - but there are several concrete things we can do in the coming weeks to make it real.
Follow me over the jump for what they are...
Let me preface by saying: we have a strong field. I like all of our top contenders, and will support any of them if they should get the nomination.
However, I strongly believe that there is an even more qualified candidate - named Albert A. Gore, Jr.
It's still 13 months before the 2008 election - plenty of time for a candidate to get in and win. However we - especially we as members of DailyKos - have to lead the effort to get Gore into the race and create the groundswell of momentum it will take.
Here are three things you can do TODAY to make that headline real:
- First - from the Michigan Draft Gore campaign, via kimberlyweldon's diary:
URGENT: As a result of the latest developments, including the newly-enacted Michigan Presidential Primary law, nominating petitions with the signatures of 12,396 registered Michigan voters must be submitted by OCTOBER 23 in order to put the name AL GORE on the January 15 Michigan primary ballot!
Kossacks - we need to ensure that Al Gore is a viable option on all primary ballots. Michigan's is the first we should worry about. To donate:
Make check payable to:
"Volunteers to Draft Al Gore for 2008"
and mail it to:
Volunteers to Draft Al Gore for 2008

They also told me that it would be very helpful if the donors could phone the Co-Chair, Doug Kelley, 734-662-1731 from 9am to 8pm Eastern time, to let him know about the donation and its size.
The contact email for this is Alexjuliea@aol.com
- Second - there is a huge Run, Al, Run Rally and Concert planned for Des Moines Iowa on Sunday, October 21st. If Gore wins the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday the 12th, frankly, this would be the perfect place to kick off a presidential run.
The good folks planning this event need some financial support:
Donations to cover operational costs are needed at this critical time:
Citizens for a Great Presidential Candidate
c/o Wells Fargo Bank
101 3rd Avenue SW
Cedar Rapids, IA 52403
- Third - I've set up an ActBlue "$5 for Al Gore" draft page, based on the concept from Arizona election laws that multiple small-dollar donations are a great way to show building support for a candidate.
Since we started the drive on Wednesday, 26 Kossacks have chipped in $5 to indicate their support - but surely there are at least 1,000 people of the 140,000 registerd on this site who can throw in $5 to help build the story that Al Gore's support to get in the race is growing. Right?
